Challenge

Doctor’s could not organize and track their patients progress with Mayzent and Gilenya

  • Mayzent™ and Gilenya™ is a tablet to treat and prevent multiple sclerosis (MS) and macular edema in different stages. Doctors and health care providers (HCP’s) wanted a quicker way to track all their patients progress with the drug. Their current portal did not track what stage their patient’s were on in the pill taking process.

Doctor’s had difficulty navigating their current portal

  • For new doctors, it was difficult to add a new patient. Also, it was difficult to tell which patient was taking what drug (no filter, only by most recent patient).

Patients could not easily communicate their progress with the drug to their doctors

  • Patients would barely update their health care providers on their pill intake. Patients found it difficult to find specific testing facilities for blood tests and screenings. It was a difficult onboarding process for patients.

Solutions

In the portal, separate patient list by which stage they are in, in the pill taking process

  • Registration and Screening Phase

    • New Registered Patients

  • Titration Phase

    • First Dose Observation: Patient needs to take a pill starter kit before they can take Mayzent™ or Gilenya™

  • Maintenance Phase

    • Patients can now take Mayzent™ or Gilenya™ daily

Added an “Add a new patient” button and filter in the header of the portal

  • Doctors and Health Care Providers can now easily add a new patient and can filter out all their patients by what drug the patients are taking.

Patient app to communicate progress to their doctors

  • After visiting the doctors office, patients would receive an email link to download an app and a code for their login

  • Patients can find clinics for blood tests and screenings near them, keep track of their pill intake

  • Allowed full communication with health care providers to monitor if the patients are taking their pills on a daily basis

  • There was a lot of research regarding accessibility design and ADA compliance. Also, research on what type of language should be used when addressing personal medical journey’s with patients.
